Panama City, Panama, first city on Mark's itinerary
Recently Mark Wieser, Fischer & Wieser's Chairman of the Board, went on a 10 day trade mission to Central America, sponsored by SUSTA, the Southern United States Trade Association. Mark visited Panama, El Salvador, Costa Rica and Guatemala. The purpose of this trip was to introduce buyers and distributors in those countries to Fischer & Wieser's products. Samples of Fischer & Wieser products, displayed for Central American buyers to try
Before he left, Mark had sets of samples for each country sent ahead of him for the buyers to try. "Buyers varied in their reaction to Fischer & Wieser products," Mark stated. "The distinguished buyers loved them!" He and other company representatives from Georgia, Florida, Maryland and Texas visited gourmet shops, grocery stores, and big box stores. Mark's group tours an R&S Supermarket, part of a chain in Panama
Although there was little free time for the company representatives to do sight-seeing, Mark did get to visit one very intriguing location, Antigua, Guatemala. "It remains today just as it was in the 16th Century." Mark commented. A cathedral in Antigua, Guatemala, appearing much the same as it was in the 1500's
In assessing the trip as a whole, Mark stated, "We hope to have some agreements with the buyers we contacted in 1 to 3 months. Due to variations in label requirements from country to country, this takes a little time. "All in all, I felt the mission was very successful! I think the most startling revelation was that these countries are very much like the US. A lot of Americans live there and people are very friendly. Ironically however, the average monthly income among the four countries was only around $125.00." Write Comment (0 comments) |

Quinton Pyle, Pearl Harbor Survivor, and Case D. Fischer, before the Pearl Harbor Survivors' Parade begins
One of the most notable events to be held in Fredericksburg, the 67th Pearl Harbor Survivors Association National Convention, took place the weekend of December 5-7, 2008. Attended by more than 80 survivors (and their families) of the Pearl Harbor attack in Hawaii, December 7, 1941, ceremonies took place at the National Museum of the Pacific War, established in Fredericksburg to honor a Fredericksburg native son, Admiral Chester W. Nimitz. Case Fischer, CEO of Fischer & Wieser Specialty Foods, Inc., was extremely proud to take part in the ceremonies. Case, Quinton and Simon, (Case's son) head to the parade in 1940 DeSoto Convertible loaned to Case by Milton Crenwelge, Crenwelge Motors, for the parade..
 What a Car!
Pearl Harbor Survivors from Waco ready for the parade. Marines presently serving, with Pearl Harbor Survivor Case and Simon, Case's son, escorted Quinton Pyle, Fredericksburg resident and Pearl Harbor survivor, in the Pearl Harbor Survivors' portion of the Weinachten Parade, (a yearly event held in Fredericksburg to kick off the Christmas season). As Fireman Second Class in the U.S. Navy, Quinton Pyle was only 19 years old at the time of the attack. He was in the Navy serving on the USS Bagley when the Japanese assault occurred. His ship powered up to leave the harbor to launch a defensive attack from sea in response to the onslaught. Its crew destroyed six enemy planes, with Pyle assisting with ammunition retreieval for the Torrent-2 gun. The sign's on...now the parade can begin! Case serves as Board Member and Chairman of the Operations and Marketing Committee of the Admiral Nimitz Foundation. His involvement in the museum goes back to his high school days; his passion for World War II heroes and their successors, begun early in his life, continues very strongly today. After 21 years we are excited to share the news that we will be returning to the SIAL food show in Paris (the Sial is the second largest show in the world). Believe it or not this was the first show Mark and I ever did after we officially started our partnership - Fischer & Wieser Specialty Foods, Inc. Hopefully the gray I have added to my head since our first visit will help in selling into these markets! I feel it is a good time to try the European markets, which have great challenges, but a great "up side" if we are successful. We've done well in the U.S. markets, so we feel we'll have success in the European marketplace as well. We leave on the 16th of October. We look forward to the trip and feel fortunate to be attending. For anyone who is interested, we'll be in booth #4L130. We hope to see many old friends there, and make a few new ones at the same time! Bon Jour! Case Write Comment (2 comments) |
